Pain Treatment

It is difficult to see any family member in pain, and our pets are masters at hiding pain. They could be in pain for any number of reasons including: age-related joint problems, dental problems, sprains/ strains/ fractures, feline acne, hip dysplasia, arthritis, or wounds.

We prescribe pain management treatments based on the level of pain, the symptoms being shown, known effectiveness, possible side effects, quality of life and lifestyle. No two treatments will be the same as each pet needs a treatment as unique as they are.
We include medications, both injectable and consumable, supplements, and alternative medicine options for your pet. Below is a little more information on the alternative medicine options we include in our treatment plans.
Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy (VSMT)
Also known as chiropractics, spinal manipulation is a form of manual therapy which can locate and improve subluxations of joints with restricted motion. "Subluxation" refers to a loss in the normal range of motion or a slight misalignment within a joint that causes irritation of the nerves and soft tissues due to the abnormal pressure points. Subluxations are commonly found within the neck, back and pelvic regions where they prevent the normal function of the spinal nerves, thus interfering with the signals between the body and the brain.
VSMT is performed through the application of short precise thrusts in a non-invasive manner. Therefore, chiropractic adjustments are ideal as they can restore joint motion and nerve function without causing substantial joint movement. As a result VSMT is not a painful procedure and is often accepted well by the animal.

Dr. Lydia Prystayko has been certified to perform VSMT by the
American Veterinary Chiropractic Association.
Laser Therapy
Laser therapy is a treatment using light energy to increase blood flow to an affected area there by reducing swelling, and promoting faster healing. It is also an effective alternative pain relief treatment. The laser light is delivered through a non-invasive hand piece to treat the affected area. Your pet may feel a gentle and soothing warmth. Most treatments take a matter of minutes.  It is a practice we use almost daily with our patients, and is included in the treatment of all of our surgery patients before they leave the clinic. Laser therapy has been scientifically proven to be successful in treating post-surgical pain and many acute and chronic conditions. Disorders that respond well to laser therapy include but not limited to wound healing including surgical as well as traumatic wounds, intervertebral disc disease, arthritic conditions, various skin issues such as "hot spots", ear infections and lick granulomas.
