We offer nail trims for cats and dogs with one of our Veterinary Technicians. Regularly trimming nails is important to help with paw care, as long nails can sometimes curl into the pad painfully and cause an infection. Some pets need them more often than others, when to do them is dependant on their lifestyle. For our K9 patients a dremel nail trim is available at no extra charge. We find that although it takes longer, using the dremel we can get closer to the quick than traditional nail scissors, and find it especially helpful with dogs who have longer quicks.
Many dogs and cats are uncomfortable with their paws being touched or handled, and you can slowly get them accustomed to it by daily playing with or handling your pet's paws to help make it less stressful when they need a trim.
For some pets nail trims are too much, and they may need some form of sedation - don't worry! It is more common than you may think and you can discuss any difficulties or concerns you have with your veterinarian at your annual wellness exam or schedule a consultation appointment to discuss all your options.

Soft Paws
We also offer Soft Paws nail cap applications for our feline friends, to help curb the damage from their nails. Soft Paws nail caps cover your cat's nails and are a non-surgical solution for cat's destructive scratching. They are vinyl nail caps which come in multiple sizes and colours to cover each of your cat's claws, while still allowing them to retract. Each application can last up to 6 weeks depending on how often your cat naturally sheds their nails.
Alternatively if you wanted to apply at home, we can schedule you in for a consultation and one of our technicians would be happy to show you how to put them on.
